Vshesh News: Google has started roll out a new privacy feature that will allow people to directly request the removal of search results containing their personal information. According to a 9-to-5 Google report, Google’s ‘Results About You’ tool is now being made available to some users. It was announced earlier this year during its annual developer conference. With this new tool, if you find your personal information such as home address, e-mail ID, phone number or any other information on Google search, simply click on the three-dot icon that appears in the top-right corner of each result. Click on the overflow menu. As mentioned in the report, the existing ‘About this result’ panel opens with a new ‘Remove result’ option that appears at the bottom of your screen.

Currently to remove any Personally Identifiable Information (PII), you need to visit a Google Help page and fill out a form containing the URL you wanted to remove from search results. Now, you can also monitor the removal progress with your About Results tool. Apart from the ‘All Requests’ feed, you have filters like ‘In Progress’ & ‘Approved’.

Google has previously stated that when it receives removal requests, ‘we will evaluate all content on the web page to ensure that we are not limiting the availability of other information, for example in news articles’. ‘ Removing contact information from Google Search does not remove it from the Web, ‘so you may want to contact the hosting site directly if you are comfortable doing so.’ Updated our policies to remove the information.
